Webinar Description
The inability to control one's sexual behavior can be an enormous source of distress to individuals, their partners and their families.
Some treatment models for treating this distressing behavior promote complete sexual sobriety- including the cessation of fantasy, or other triggers that could arouse. While abstention is a useful model for dealing with addictions to substance abuse, abstention from sex, or "lust" is far more complex. We are all created with a sexual self and need to be able to acknowlede our sexuality and channel our behaviors in ways that our consistent with our values and beliefs.
This one hour workshop will present an approach to treatment which is based on sexual health and the expectation that individuals need to learn to integrate their sexuality with their spirituality and values. This approach recognizes that there is variability in sexual desires and preferences and that treatment should focus on what is underlying the behavior, and in particular the role of trauma.
