Even when we are not in the middle of a pandemic, our brains are busy evaluating whether or not we are safe. Anxiety is often a consequence of feeling unsafe, creating a cascade of unpleasant physiological symptoms which make us feel worse.
This short webinar will provide some examples of how to interrupt the experience of anxiety, through Somatic Intervention. You will have a chance to explore which experiential exercises work best for you, before trying them on your clients.


Agenda:

Porges on neuroception and safety— 15 minutes
Physiology of anxiety—5 minutes
Somatic Intervention— 5 minutes
Experiential exercises using different interventions—35 minutes

Learning Objectives:

  • Introduce interruption as a therapeutic tool
  • Describe importance of the breath in regulating anxiety
  • Recall several sensory interventions
  • Define some of Stephen Porges' ideas: neuroception, prosody, vagus nerve
  • Clarify Stephen Porges's concept of neuroception
