Webinar Description

This one hour course will focus on what you can do in psychotherapy to help a client going through a
divorce. It presupposes that divorce is a loss; a death of sorts. The client has lost the family they had
hoped to have. He or she may have been betrayed as well.

Learning Objectives:

  • The clinician will learn:• How to introduce the grieving model to your client.• How to watch out for counter-transference.• Help the client understand the many triggers of a divorce.o The client can be triggered by hurts from their family of origin.o The client can be triggered by their soon to be ex spouse.o The client can be triggered by their children. (Who may look or talk like their ex.)o Learn to manage the triggers without making things worse for the children.• Teach clients self care.o Find friends and family that are there for you.o Find ways to find nurture.• Identify depression or an anxiety disorder when present.• Common medications that can be of use in the midst of divorce.• Discuss the value of forgiving or not forgiving.
